Ok let me first start with what I like....Maddie has a huge crush on Trent and has since she was a young (11 years old). He is a star soccer player. He comes from a line of older brothers that were regaled as hometown football heros for bringing home the championships year over year. The Basso brothers are the "it" boys that all the girls want in town. I loved the innocence of their love story. I loved how she crushed on him and it took him awhile to see what was in front of him. However, I enjoyed the past story much more than the present (her brother's wedding).

The book flip flops from past to present and you get a sense of how Maddie has been treated and how she has loved. I don't want to spoil anything....but this a love triangle book between two brothers. Maddie got on my nerves because she certainly couldn't read hints or signs. I faulted her in the demise of the relationship, because she clearly didn't communicate what she wanted. She allowed and forgave a lot, and her resentment compounded year over year until it exploded like a volcano. She just couldn't spit out the words and tell people what she wanted and how it would be. Her timid - got to make everyone happy - got on my nerves.

The way the book just wraps up - "no hard feelings" - we are all friends and everything is good" didn't work for me either. I don't know but it seemed the characters didn't remain consistent. It wasn't bad, but it didn't hit it out of the park for me. It was a slow read at times for me. I lost interest and didn't feel the tension or angst that the author seemed to be trying to convey.

Love Me Back edition by Michelle Lynn SG Thomas Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I was so into the description of this book. I love a good love triangle, I don't know why, I just like them, probably because I love my drama in books. The thing about me and love triangles is I really want to pull for both guys, like I don't want to end up hating one of the guys right from the beginning, because then it feels less like a love triangle and more like someone interfering. This book made things even more complicated because the two guys vying for Maddy's attention are brothers, and one of them used to be the guy she used to date. So needless to say this book is all kinds of complicated.

I guess I liked Maddy, she was okay. She wasn't very assertive, and honestly I felt like most of the book she was trying to avoid the situation as much as possible. Like it was just easier to avoid. She is back to be in her brothers wedding, and this sets up for a lot of togetherness with people Maddy seems to be more on board with avoiding rather then spending every day with them.

The two brothers in question are Gabe and Trent. Both are successful guys in their own very different ways, Trent is a soccer star, and Gabe is starting up his own business. But Gabe was clearly the far superior brother. Or maybe it was just me. I mean Trent just seemed overly confident, kind of a jerk, and just in general a self-important jerk. Gabe on the other hand is super sweet, and is nice to Maddy from day one. He stands off to side when he needs to, but he is always a steady presence in Maddy's life.

The thing about this book is that it goes back and forth between present and past, which is normally okay for me, but this was more then just flashbacks, it was literally a back and forth all the time. I felt like while it was important to get some of the background for these characters, it just messed with the pacing of the book and left it feeling more disjointed then anything else. Maybe it was just me.

I think the most important thing to mention about this book is it is like 98% angst. If you like angst then this is the book for you. If not then run away. I liked the book well enough, I liked Maddy, I liked Gabe, I was happy with the way things ended (I love a good epilogue). Little too much angst, but even so I would be willing to try out another book by this author.
I want to say that the dynamic of these three was amazing. The story line is amazing. The characters are amazing. And the angst was off the charts. I felt like I was Maddy in so many scenes. I could feel her despair. Her love for each brother. And the reasons she felt so strongly for each one. It was not one of those books where the heroins indecisiveness was nerve wracking. You could honestly see AND understand where she had difficulty in a decision. With that being said this book could have easily been a five star read. When I say this I hope it as took as the constructive criticism that it is intended. I could see where the author was trying to add to the word count of the book. It is ok to use words such as “it’s” instead of “it is”, or “we’re” instead of “we are”, “can’t” instead of “cannot”. This story could have had a bigger and better impact (for me) had those words been shortened. I would rather have a few hundred less words than to feel as if I am reading a story with a monotone feeling. I want to feel the story. I felt that I spent so much time shortening the words to sound more believable and more real that I lost so much of what this book could have been. I really hope this book gets a makeover and these issues rectified. Because this story could have been in my top five books ever read.
