I read about Elizabeth Gaskell in another book I read. I am not finished with it, but have gone through 68% of it and have read several of the novels. They are all unique and express different issues of the 19th century. Unlike Jane Austen's characters, Gaskell's were of different societal classes and had to overcome some serious obstacles. It seemed realistic to me. The families all had to work together to ensure the survival of the family unit. There were many deaths caused by childbirth and lack of modern medicine.Product details
