Imagine a high-strung, comfort loving hitwoman at a rustic spiritual retreat.
Things are finally looking up for Maggie Lee.
Her almost-lover Patrick is taking steps (albeit deadly ones) to insure they’ll have a future together, her niece Katie is about to be released from the hospital, her sister Marlene has stopped turning tricks and started tossing pizzas, and Maggie has a chance to land a new (legal) job.
If only God would stop hounding her to apologize to her mother, Maggie would be pretty close to content with her life.
When Maggie agrees to take out a new target, using a spiritual retreat as her cover story, she ends up with a spoon (long story), an odd, selectively mute roommate, and a chance to save a life.
As Maggie struggles to balance all the important people in her life and deliver on the deadly contract, she begins to believe that God may be right about the act of contrition he’s demanded…but will she live long enough to do it?

Of the Hitwoman series, this is easily my favorite so far. While in others we are drawn into our Hitwoman's relationships, watching them build, in Contrition we see them mature over the bonfire of forgiveness, in some cases even if that means they must end. I feel this is the most mature book in the series, more time is spent on why the person should die, to me the death, though off screen, if I may, is still the most eloquent and most touching of her assassinations, indeed the most satisfying in a way which ties in to the song of the book (and to me the book does have one which is sung throughout). If, after reading the other Hitwoman books, you're ready for something a little more touching, a little more soul-searching, a little more responsible, with the same sexy, furry, ironic fun of the other books, Contrition is for you! I'll be back to read this one again. It's smokin'!

The Hitwoman Act of Contrition Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman Book 10 edition by JB Lynn Parisa Zolfaghari Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I have reviewed most of this series of novels. I know it's not quite accurate to describe them as "light-hearted" but they are funny, have good characters and have plots that are far from anything that might happen in real life so the bad guys don't bother you. I binged on the series and am looking forward to the next ones.
Looked so forward to this book in the hitwoman series and it did not disappoint.
As usual it has left me looking forward to the next book about Darlene.
The characters are so entertaining. The humour and the chemistry between Maggie and Patrick is great, not to forget Armani and the aunts. God, Dee Dee and Piss make me tend to forget they are not actually able to communicate with Maggie for real. An extremely well written series that makes me feel happy.
This book in the hit woman's series wasn't as light hearted and funny as some in the past have been. There were several different stories going on within this book and some were hard to follow- Loretta and her boyfriend, Amani, the romance (non romance?!?) between her and her mentor, Katie's homecoming, job prospects...... It was more than usual to follow. With that said- it was still a fun read and I eagerly await the next of the series (and the next in the matchmaker series too).
Best one yet in the series. The humor that goes into the book about a female hit woman is so refreshing. Her talking animals add so much to the humor and they help Maggie deal with the situations that she has to deal with when "offing someone". As she says though she only takes the cases of the truly evil people in the world. Glad to see another character being introduced, Angel, he seems like he might bring a bit of intrigue with him, and maybe,in my mind anyway, there might be a little chemistry between him and Maggie. This might cause Patrick to step up his game so he doesn't lose her.
Another great read. I love the hitwoman series. I never want them to end. I do want a happy ending for Maggie and I hope it's with Patrick. I do wish she would stop pushing him away. They seem to have great chemistry. He really cares about her and he shows up whenever she needs him even if she doesn't know she does. I wish they would just go ahead and get it on though. Normal people don't have such restraint. Her life seems more complicated than it should be though. I think she puts more on herself than necessary. I want to know what's going o happen with Zeke. He sounded like one fine specimen. I'd hate to see such a strong character fall by the way side.
The series is the continuous story of Maggie Lee, her pets, men in her life and crazy family. The Act of Contrition stems from a request by God (new readers, don't be alarmed, God is short for Godzilla) for a payback Maggie owes him. As the series has progressed, God, who happens to be a lizard, becomes more insightful amidst his impatient, irate ways which help Maggie survive one close call after another. Finding acceptance from her mother and returning it is the side story of this book, and as usual, it is packed with unusual characters who "stand in line" to hold the reader's interest.
Maggie is back along with the rest of her eccentrically dysfunctional family, friends, & pets. Just as life has started to look up for Maggie she is handed two requests. God (her lizard) asks her to forgive her mother & Mr. D has a new target for her. Poor Maggie's life just starts to swirl again. It's not easy being a daughter, guardian for her orphaned niece, almost girlfriend to Patrick, & hitwoman, but Maggie never gives up.
This series is delightfully quirky & yet heart warming. However, we are left with yet another cliff-hanger. I can only say, "Ms Lynn, write faster!"
